Anterior crossbite in children.

There are cases in which it is necessary to act at around 7-8 years of age, i.e. even before the dentition has been completely replaced.

When the lower incisors bite in front of the upper incisors, we speak of anterior crossbite. These are cases that require a great deal of experience on the part of the orthodontist in order to make a correct diagnosis and treatment plan. There are two types of situations:

  1. Patients are easy to treat as the problem is exclusively dental. They are susceptible to treatment at 7-8 years of age, even earlier, with excellent results.
  2. Other cases are much more complex as they have a skeletal component due to excessive mandibular growth, these cases should not be treated until growth is complete. Generally the best option is orthognathic surgery.

Knowing which cases should be treated and at what time is dictated by the orthodontist's experience.
